Test Market Demand for CT & MRI Before You Buy

How to Test Market Demand for CT/MRI Before Investing in Equipment Purchasing an CT or MRI machine is one of the biggest financial decisions a healthcare facility can make. But how do you Test Market Demand for MRI & CT Before You Buy to justify the investment? Instead of committing millions upfront, hospitals and clinics can test demand with short-term solutions that provide real-world data before making a permanent purchase. Mansa Medical helps providers evaluate imaging needs while reducing financial risk. Why Testing Demand Matters (Measuring Utilization) An underutilized imaging system can quickly drain resources. Therefore, testing demand helps facilities: Measure patient volume and referral patterns Assess reimbursement rates and revenue potential Identify gaps in community access Strengthen Certificate of Need (CON) applications with real data Accurate utilization data is key to confident investment. You must also examine your state’s Certificate of Need (CON) requirements, which regulate the creation or expansion of many healthcare facilities. Using Mobile Imaging to Gauge Demand Mobile MRI and Mobile CT rentals allow facilities to “try before they buy.” Specifically, benefits include: Low upfront costs – avoid construction and permanent purchase Flexibility – scale service days up or down as needed Speed to market – units can be delivered and running in days Data collection – track scan volume and payer mix to Test Demand for MRI & CT Consequently, this approach helps leadership teams see how imaging services perform in real patient settings. Shared Routes as a Market Test For facilities unsure about demand, shared mobile routes provide another solution. By splitting costs with other providers, you can offer imaging services part-time while collecting valuable data on patient needs and financial performance. Turning Data into Long-Term Strategy  Once utilization data is in hand, facilities can make informed decisions: Move forward with a permanent CT/MRI suite if volume justifies it Continue mobile or shared services if demand remains modest Use data to strengthen CON or financing applications Ultimately, Mansa Medical partners with you to interpret results and design a growth strategy that aligns with patient care goals and budget realities. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) How long should we test demand before making a purchase? Most facilities run mobile imaging for 6–12 months to gather enough data on patient volume and reimbursement. Can test programs still generate revenue? Yes. Even temporary imaging services are billable and can offset program costs while you evaluate demand. Will testing delay our ability to get a CON? No. In fact, utilization data from testing often strengthens CON applications, making approval more likely. What if demand is lower than expected? Mobile or shared imaging lets you scale back without being locked into a costly permanent investment.
